Drug trafficking and bilateral ties: this is the agenda for the Petro - Trump meeting in Washington, D.C.
President Gustavo Petro is already in the United States to begin an official agenda in Washington, D.C. from February 2 to 5, as part of activities focused on institutional engagement between Colombia and the United States, as well as political, academic, and community dialogue.
During his stay in Washington, President Petro will also meet with members of the Colombian diaspora at the Martin Luther King Library, with the participation of Colombian nationals living in the U.S. capital.
Face-to-face meeting between President Petro and Donald Trump
As part of the agenda, the head of state will hold an institutional meeting at the White House on February 3 with U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting is intended to present Colombia’s priorities and outline the main lines of bilateral work on issues of shared interest.
In an exclusive interview with RTVC Noticias ahead of his trip, he said: “I’ll be waiting for you on Tuesday, when I’m meeting with President Donald Trump, in public squares, to form the chain of affection; what protects us is love”.

The official schedule also includes a lecture at Georgetown University, where the president will address the challenges of climate change in the continent from both a regional and global perspective.
During the same period, the president will hold institutional meetings with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States and with members of the U.S. Congress from both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, as part of dialogue on issues of hemispheric interest.
Additionally, the presidente will meet with U.S. cocoa-sector associations to explore cooperation and marketing opportunities for Colombian cocoa, within strategies linked to rural development and crop-substitution processes.
The Washington agenda includes distinct spaces for political, legislative, academic, and community engagement, within a foreign policy framework focused on defending national interests and strengthening institutional dialogue.
